The problem

Looking for a job is time consuming and frustrating. We’ve all been there: the thrill of finally coming across a job ad that seems like a match. In our excitement, we abandon our better judgement of understanding the details of the vacancy and analysing for fit. Rather, we let our enthusiasm get the better of us and before we know it, we’re clicking “Send application”. The results are predictable: we’ve quickly submitted a cover letter and resume and after waiting weeks to hear back from them, we find out we’ve been rejected or, worse yet, we hear nothing at all. 

The solution

Take a pragmatic, systematic approach and learn to “decode the job ad”. In doing so, you isolate the valuable information that will help you make a conscious decision on whether you should apply or not. More importantly, you will be able to quickly identify if the job opportunity in front of you is the right fit or not. This will save time and energy while crafting your application (choosing effective keywords and stories from your previous experience to portray in your cover letter and resume that directly relate to the ad) or moving on in your search.
